If you took the time to read their terms, there are vague sentences about how they may take information and even pass onto other third party services. You say you don't care but you really should, at least for the sake of others that were in your chats that may not be as comfortable as you are when it comes to potentially exposing all your private data. You don't know what data they took or what the software could have installed as a backdoor into your phone. I wrote a summary about the current state of going from Android to iPhone here: Īs the other comment by /u/subduderecords says, the main issue still stands, data privacy and security.

Contacts were already synced before to my iPhone so that was picked up directly.Įven passed ultimate test: I did an iCloud backup on my iPhone of whatsapp (took ages, due to my whatsapp being so large - around 7.5 gb backup so had to buy additional icloud storage) and then I deleted the whatsapp app from my iPhone, restarted the iPhone, redownloaded whatsapp and restored from that iCloud backup: worked perfectly.ĭidn't know that I would write this about something that seems very sketchy (paypal payment is suddenly to a chinese named company, not wondershare, so confidence not great from the start) but I'm really grateful that this worked and that I could keep my messages when switching platforms :). while still doing the restore but ok.) and I'm happy to report: it works exactly as advertised.Įverything restored on my iPhone: messages, group chats, media, etc.

So bit the bullet, bought 1 year of MobileTrans (after I backed up my whatsapp through google drive & the most important chats manually using whatsapp's text export function) and hooked up my android phone and iphone through a cable to my Windows PC.įollowed instructions exactly (yes, including turning off find my iphone during the process, the fact that they install a different whatsapp app on android - older version or something and that you have to activate whatsapp on the iphone before doing the restore, which deactivates it on android. fone, all looking quite sketchy but I have years of messages and media sititng in Whatsapp that I didn't want to lose. Have been life long android user, but I got an iPhone from the company I will start working at, so had to transfer whatsapp messages from my Android device to my new iPhone (13 pro max, running iOS 15.1, android device was running Android 10). Wanted to post this since I'm actually surprised that it all worked out in the end.
